Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid)
What It Is
Pantothenic acid is sometimes referred to as Vitamin B5. It’s a water-soluble vitamin and part of the B-complex family. The name pantothenic acid comes from the Greek word pantos, which means "everywhere". This vitamin is found almost everywhere in nature and in most foods.
In its metabolic form, pantothenic acid combines with another sulfur-containing molecule to form coenzyme A (CoA). CoA allows pantothenic acid to play a part in a variety of chemical reactions within the body. What It Does
When found in its CoA form, pantothenic acid helps release energy from sugars, starches and fats. Most of this energy release happens in the mitochondria in each cell. Mitochondria are what provide the energy a cell needs to work properly in the body. They’re basically the power centers of each cell.
Several studies have specifically looked at the use of pantothenic acid to improve cholesterol and triglyceride levels in people with diabetes. The vitamin was found to be effective without causing harmful side effects.Pantothenic acid is just one of 22 ingredients in the Vita-Betic™ blend multi-vitamin, mineral and herb supplement, formulated to meet the dietary needs of diabetics.
