Vitamin B9 (Folic Acid)
What It Is
Occasionally referred to as vitamin B9, folate and folic acid are forms of a water-soluble B vitamin. Folate occurs naturally in food and folic acid is the synthetic form of the vitamin. Folic acid is used in combination with other B vitamins in B complex formulations.
What It Does
Folic acid is essential for the production and maintenance of new cells. Both adults and children need folic acid to make normal red blood cells and to prevent anemia.
Folic acid also works in the brain and nervous system. It’s a vital element of spinal and extracellular fluid. Your body needs it to manufacture DNA and RNA and help convert amino acids.
In recent years, research has shown that consuming extra folic acid before and during pregnancy can reduce the risk of several birth defects including spina bifida.Folic acid is just one of 22 ingredients in the Vita-Betic™ blend multi-vitamin, mineral and herb supplement, formulated to meet the dietary needs of diabetics.
