Vitamin H (Biotin)

What It Is

Sometimes called Vitamin H, biotin is a water-soluble B vitamin that the body needs to form fatty acids and glucose, which then produce energy. Biotin also helps with the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. The word biotin is derived from the Greek word bios, which means "life".

What It Does

Without biotin, certain enzymes cannot work properly within the body and skin. Intestinal tract and nervous system complications can arise also. Metabolic problems including very low blood sugar between meals, high blood ammonia, or acidic blood can occur.

Research has shown that biotin can decrease insulin resistance and improve glucose tolerance, which are both characteristics that may be beneficial to people with type 2 diabetes. Other studies suggest that a combination of biotin and chromium may help improve blood sugar control.

Biotin is just one of 22 ingredients in the Vita-Betic™ blend multi-vitamin, mineral and herb supplement, formulated to meet the dietary needs of diabetics. Click here for more information on the Vita-Betic formula, or click here for information how to receive FREE vitamins.
