Manganese
What It Is
Manganese is a mineral that occurs frequently in plant and animal tissues. It’s called a trace element in humans because it’s found in very small quantities in our bodies. Humans store only about 20 milligrams of manganese and most of that is in our bones.
What It Does
Manganese is an antioxidant that aids in the synthesis of amino acids and energy production. Manganese is required for proper metabolism of Vitamin B-1 and Vitamin E. It also activates a mixture of enzymes that are important for digestion and utilization of food.
Manganese can also act as a catalyst in the breakdown of fats and cholesterol, is necessary for proper skeletal development, helps nourish the nerves and brain, and maintains sex hormone production.
People with diabetes may have low blood levels of manganese. Animal research suggests that manganese deficiency can contribute to glucose intolerance and may be reversed by supplementation.
Manganese is just one of 22 ingredients in the Vita-Betic™ blend multi-vitamin, mineral and herb supplement, formulated to meet the dietary needs of diabetics. Click here for more information on the Vita-Betic formula, or click here for information how to receive FREE vitamins.
